Project Overview:
The Lake McQueeney Residence is a 3,300-square-foot home renovation in McQueeney, Texas, set along Lake McQueeney with views toward the lower Guadalupe River. Originally built in the 1980s, the home had been well used over time and was ready for a thoughtful architectural update focused on comfort, character, energy performance, and everyday livability.
The renovation preserved and reworked several of the home’s strongest existing features, including original sandstone columns, a two-sided stone fireplace, a dropped living room with a step-down hearth, and a library wall set into the existing stone. These elements gave the house a sense of weight and permanence, while new design work helped clarify the interior layout and improve how the home functions for contemporary living.
Interior updates included the creative reworking of the kitchen and bar areas, a large bookshelf wall within the existing library, improved connections between living spaces, and material selections that balance warmth, durability, and continuity with the original home. Exterior updates incorporated stucco, wood, Hardie siding, and galvanized metal to refresh the home while respecting its existing character.
The project also included HVAC updates and insulation improvements intended to improve energy efficiency, thermal comfort, and long-term performance. As a Lake McQueeney home renovation, the work focused on giving a well-loved 1980s residence a quieter, more durable, and more comfortable second life.
