HILL COUNTRY MODERN RESIDENCE
WACO, TEXAS
A 2,500-square-foot custom home and landscape project in Waco, Texas, designed around Brazos River bluff views, natural light, outdoor living, passive cooling, and a quieter next chapter of life.
Project Overview:
The Hill Country Modern Residence is a 2,500-square-foot custom home and landscape project in Waco, Texas, designed for a couple entering the empty-nester phase of life. Set on the bluffs of the Brazos River, the project is shaped by views, natural light, outdoor living, and a more relaxed way of inhabiting the home.
The design brings together Hill Country material warmth with a cleaner modern residential expression. Stucco, stone, wood, and metal form the exterior palette, while gypsum board, polished concrete, and wood create a restrained and durable interior environment. The home is organized around daily comfort, gathering, connection to the landscape, and a strong relationship between interior living spaces and the outdoor porch.
A vaulted living space with clerestory windows brings daylight deep into the home, while a 20-foot sliding door opens toward the outdoor porch and frames a centered view toward the pool. A casita functions as an office and guest bedroom, allowing the home to support both everyday living and visiting family or friends. Wood soffits throughout the exterior add warmth, continuity, and craft to the project’s modern form.
As a Waco custom residence, the project combines site-responsive design, landscape planning, passive cooling strategies, and durable material choices suited to Central Texas. The result is a Hill Country Modern home designed for comfort, views, outdoor living, and a quieter next chapter of life along the Brazos River.
